Today sees the opening of Power Station, a feature-length documentary which will have its world premiere at Sheffield's DocFest.
The film follows the trials and tribulations of two artists, Daniel Edelstyn and Hilary Powell, as they put their lives on hold to turn their London street, and some local schools, into solar power stations.
The film's goal is to offer a blueprint of how to decarbonise our nation, street by street. In doing so, it provides a heart-warming tour de force with a clear call to action, offering a ‘how to guide’ on pushing for a sustainable future for us all.
"A POWER STATION is what happens when a community decides to: generate its own energy; save money on bills; build resilience - to retrofit and decarbonise. A POWER STATION creates its own power - in every sense of the word. It's solar panels on rooftops, yes, but it's also building community".
The film is both funny and moving, and provides a vibrant 'fly-on-the-wall' portrait of Dan & Hilary’s neighbourhood in Walthamstow. It features many members of the community from Walthamstow, local residents and schools - including one of the five schools in Waltham Forest that we installed on - Barn Croft Primary School. The film paints a picture of a truly people-powered movement with community at the heart. And with over 50 other streets around the country coming forward, wanting to replicate this model, Power Station is also proof that art has the power to change hearts, minds and lead to progress.
