Solar for Schools UK

Education Impact Report for 2024 now live

30/01/2025 Anna

35,000 students reached in 2024, as we drive behaviour change with our hands-on energy education across schools.

This month, we're thrilled to launch our first Education Impact Report, highlighting some of our headline impact data and major achievements from across 2024.

As part of our mission to empower students to become real world problem-solvers, our education team use hands-on STEM-based lessons and workshops,  bringing solar and renewable energy to life with real-time data from the solar system on each school rooftop.

Our education work supports schools to embed sustainability into the curriculum to drive behaviour change – not just to the pupils but to the wider school communities, empowering more individuals to make positive changes for the planet.

"The energy transition should take place in people’s minds, not just on roofs and in fields"

It's our mission to ensure every child in the UK can understand where their energy comes from, how energy is measured and how to compare energy generation with consumption, and in 2024 we delivered 386 interactive workshops to nearly 35,000 students across the UK.

Across the year, 2,129 tonnes of carbon were avoided across those schools – that’s equivalent to 286 homes’ energy use for a year - while 11,032,569 kWh worth of clean solar energy was generated by those schools.

We also made great strides towards influencing policymakers. Following our well-attended Parliamentary showcase event in November 2024, there are now over 30 MPs actively working with us to speed up the transition to net-zero across their constituencies, helping to overcome barriers to getting more solar onto school rooftops.

Our goals for 2025 include reaching at least 20,000 more students with in-person assemblies and workshops.

While we achieved a lot in 2024, our work has really only just started...
