“The Solar for Schools project was a really positive experience for our school. It made me feel proud to be part of a school that cares about making a difference to the environment. Having the opportunity to work with the Solar for Schools team, politicians and others just showed how ambitious we can be”
• 326 live schools now benefiting from solar, that we manage, totalling around 30MW of power, making us the largest manager of solar on schools in the UK
• 63 schools went solar with us this year
• £5m raised this year from bondholders, Triodos and grants to fund the installations
• 5 more councils started working with us this year
• 3 new community energy groups that we've partnered with. This year, we’ve built stronger collaborations than ever with councils, dioceses, multi-academy trusts, community energy groups and education partners.
Empowering young people to be problem-solvers and advocates of tomorrow remains central to everything we do. This year, we strengthened the links between democracy, advocacy and climate action by supporting students to influence their schools, communities and decision-makers. Here's how:
• 24 MP engagements and school visits helped bring student voices into national conversations
• 20 students attended our Westminster Parliamentary Showcase, interacting with 16 MPs
• 108,000+ pupils reached this year in schools
• 33,800 students directly engaged through assemblies, workshops and events
• 564 hours of direct pupil engagement
We often describe ourselves as a “walking, talking” green careers fair, and in September we hosted a first-of-its-kind green skills event at Ark Victoria Academy in Birmingham. 200+ students were joined by politicians and business leaders as they explored real-world career paths into the green energy transition (note: some of these jobs don’t yet exist!). Read more about this event here:
In March, the Government announced £80 million for Great British Energy solar in schools, with around 250 schools set to benefit. This presents a major opportunity to scale our impact, and we’ve deepened collaboration with DESNZ and GB Energy to help make this ambition a reality.
June saw the premiere of Power Station, a feature-length documentary following a community campaign to build a solar power station – including five schools and a residential street in Walthamstow. The film and national movement reminds us what’s possible when communities come together.
2025 has shown what’s possible when students lead, schools act and partnerships form. We closed the year by hosting our second Parliamentary Showcase, bringing together 16 MPs and 20 students from eight schools across the UK.
• Students showcased achievements, shared ambitious goals and confidently challenged MPs to move faster.
• Energy Minister Michael Shanks delivered a keynote, reinforcing government backing as we scale nationally.
• Our CEO Robert Schrimpff highlighted the crucial role of school landlords and building owners in accelerating decarbonisation – and the opportunity to work more closely together.
• Two key takeaways from the day: 1) collaboration across the system will help us decarbonise faster, and 2) young people are ready with bold ideas – the system must keep up.
Thank you for joining us on this journey. We’re ready to build on this momentum in 2026!
“I just kept reminding the teachers... I told them it was important, that we needed to do something about climate change.”
